You see the dates above and you even are questioning why you are looking at this site in the first place.
Maybe a friend told you about us, or maybe one of our members cornered you and asked you to look here, but in any case,
you are here, so that must mean you are a little curious.
Below are some Frequently asked questions about our organization and Fraternities and Sororities in general. Hopefully
this will make your decision a little easier on whether to pledge or not.
Q) WHAT IN THE HELL IS A FRATORITY?
a) A Fratority is quite simply a CO-ED Fraternity / Sorority. Legend has it that Founding
Father PETER LONGO coined the phrase first back in 1972 and other organizations at Lewis and other universities have used
it since. We can safely say we are THE FIRST FRATORITY IN THE USA.
Q) THAT SOUNDS LAME. WHY WOULD I WANT TO PLEDGE IN A CO-ED GROUP?
a) It's all a matter of preference. If you want to pledge a classic Fraternity or Soroity,
we can recommend some good ones on campus.
We have always strived to include everyone, so if you want something a little against the
norm, then SIGMA DELTA is definately the right choice.
Besides, we can always guarantee to have men and women at every party... and that seems
to work out just fine.
Q) WHAT DO YOU GUYS DO ANYWAY?
a) We are a social organization. The membership of our group are about having a good time.
More importantly, we feel we offer a family like atmosphere for those in college. We do everything from service projects
for the community, as well as having parties for ourselves. It's a fun environment and we try not to take ourselves too seriously. If
this sounds remotely appealing... then you found the right place. The best part is, anyone can join... (No, we are not a cult)
Q) WELL, I DON'T WANT TO BE HAZED.
a) Can you define hazing..?
Just kidding... SIGMA DELTA abides by all the rules set forth by Lewis University's Student
Organization Manual and Anti-Hazing and Anti-Discrimination policies.
We will not force any member to drink, and we will not hurt our members in any physical way.
Q) DO I HAVE TO ATTEND ALL THOSE RUSHES???
a) Nope. As a matter of fact, it is not necessary to attend wither rush in order to pledge.
It may help you get a better idea of who we are though. You should try and make it out
to at least one! See if you like us in person.
And even if you don't pledge, you can always use our CD handout as a coaster for your dorm room.
Q) DO I HAVE TO DO PHYSICAL ACTIVITY?
a) Yes! Tugs Practice (TUG OF WAR EXERCISES AND TRAINING) is a must, and we also participate
in several other campus events. If you have health conditions let us know prior to pledging. Tugs practice is for the health
and benefit of our pledges so they do not get hurt during the actual event.
Q) DO I HAVE TO STAY OUT LATE?
a) Unfortunately some classes end at 9pm on campus. Therefore, to guarantee the attendance
of our members, we start most events at 9:30pm. If you can't make this timeframe nightly, it is not feasible to pledge.
Q) HOW LONG IS PLEDGING?
a) It varies but realistically there is approximately one month of pledging. (Starting and
end dates will be picked according to the University's schedule for pledging.)
Q) HOW MUCH IS THIS GONNA COST ME? I'M A BROKE COLLEGE STUDENT.
a) So are we, and we understand people work hard for their cash. Sigma Delta has the lowest
cost of any social organization on campus (As far as we know).
Currently it is approximately $80 your pledging semester. All this goes to pay for your fun
pledging gear, and activities. After you are initiated in the group, dues go down. Sigma Delta offers cash plans to help out
students on a budget and we can even take credit cards.
Q) DO I HAVE TO PAINT ROCKS?
a) Yep
